Hi ! I'm Gabriel, an apprentice IT Infrastructure & Operations Specialist at Infomaniak Network SA, the friendly ethical cloud provider based in Geneva, Switzerland. A good part of my week goes into learning networking, development, judging big tech, and helping others use and enjoy technology, and I genuinely enjoy doing so.

The rest goes into photography... mostly wildlife and the night sky even if i am bad at both. I'm also strongly advocating for free, ethical and open source software. I also have a full homelab running Proxmox VE, Snowflakes, Immich, AdGuard, Docker and more self-hosted services i forgot i had. Additionally, I made the GP1 license (gp1.olynthe.org), which stands for General Photography v1 or Gabriel Paesano, you decide.

I'm also a student at the CFPT. It's a big and confusing school i'm not a fan of, but alright. I am also the founder of The Olynthe Initiative, a small effort to support digital rights and FOSS.

Frequently Unasked Questions (FUQ)

What does "Olynthe" mean?

"Olynthe" is the French name for Olynthus, an ancient Greek city, commonly understood to mean "wild fig" or "wild fig fruit".
Olynthus was also where independent cities came together as one league, which makes it a fitting metaphor for open source: separate contributors and projects, one community, shared goals. Also: it sounded cool and looked nice as a domain :)

Is your homelab actually that messy?

Well yes. Software-wise and hardware-wise. But it works. That's the whole point. No further questions on this topic, please.

What camera should I buy to shoot like you?

I wouldn't try to shoot like someone else. Still, may I suggest the Nikon Z6III? If you really want that exact same vibe though, look for a Nikon DSLR like mine or a newer model (i.e. D7200 / D750 / D850), though I don't recommend that in 2026, even if it's clearly still usable.

Can I use your photos?

Of course. All of my photos are licensed under GP1, a license I made myself (gp1.olynthe.org), so you can use it too if you want.

Do you ever sleep?

I do. Sleep just hasn't been next door lately.

Why "FUQ"?

It stands for Frequently Unasked Questions. There's no deeper meaning or hidden reference.

What's your greatest weakness?

I overthink things. This makes me slow or look weird sometimes.

Well i'm not a pro but... Yes, and for free, since I don't photograph for money. Who even does photography for money ? But heads-up: I work or I'm at school all week, so we'd have to talk first. And if getting to you involves trains or such, I might ask you to help with the costs. I think that's a fair thing to ask.
